For
this feature we created the FieldTerminal (FT) which is used
to input the performance of the athlete, but
also to display all athlete and result information on a TimeTronics
FieldScoreboard.
Performance
entry is done by means of the keyboard or automatically by the
external laser distance measurement equipment
(EDM).
The
concept is simple and straitforward, so that any
official can use this apparatus in a few minutes.
For
example:
For high jump and pole vault only four (yellow) buttons
are
used during the event: No attempt (-), Abandon (Aban), Failed
(X), Cleared (0). That's all !
All
participant information, heat and flight composition, event parameters
etc. are entered by the (experienced) Athletics Manager software
operator on his central personal computer.
All
FT operators, as well as the MM operator can use a wireless
telephone set to communicate with each other, in case of late
change to
the participant list or other similar circumstances.
We have choosen NOT to use many standard (portable) PC's for data-entry
in the field, but only one central PC in the Athletics Manager office,
any one FieldTerminal for every field-event.
This
concept has proven to be the perfect choice, because it is very
practical to enter
participants and make fast modifications on a large computerscreen
in a comfortable Athletics Manager office, but not on the athletic
track.
Sometimes
the full sun would make this fieldwork hard, sometimes the rain
could disturb your operation. The FieldTerminal
is protected
for these difficult conditions. But one other important reason
for us is that a standard PC has a fragile keyboard and (LCD)screen,
but also the connectors and cables could already be damaged
in the field after one meet...! This will certainly not be the
case
with our industrial metal 5-pin FieldTerminal connectors, which
are fully compatible with the MacFinish cabling and extension
reels. We can guarantee their quality ! |
